Document Inventory & Training Strategy
The full document corpus was inventoried to identify the four distinct PDF types, characterize their layout variation, and define the training strategy. Tagging priorities were set based on field extraction difficulty and data quality impact.
Model Configuration & Initial Training
The AI Builder document processing model was configured, initial training documents were tagged across all four types, and the first training iteration was executed to establish a baseline extraction performance.
Iterative Testing & Model Refinement
Test runs revealed edge cases including variant Specific Power column counts, oil-injected checkbox detection, and multi-format date fields. Problem-specific PDFs were added and the model was retrained iteratively until extraction accuracy reached target.
Pipeline Integration with SQL Extraction
The trained model was connected to a Power Automate flow that routes each PDF through the extraction process and writes structured field outputs to the SQL staging table for downstream production use.
Validation, Documentation & Handover
The complete extraction workflow was validated against a representative sample of the document corpus, operational procedures were documented, and the model was handed over with guidance for ongoing retraining.
